As an official I have always found Jay as a respected head coach, he cared about his players and was respectful to us officials. I have followed Coach Jay Minyard's carrier from South Albany High to Sprague High School Salem, OR. I was one of his assistances at McKay High School, Salem, OR for seven years. Coach Minyard is an outstanding coach. He had big shoes to fill at Sprague High School and did outstanding as the head coach. Jay was born to coach Football and lead young Man. One of the most important thing's I observed in Jay, was his ability to take the young Football athletes and coach them to be much better football players then they expected to be, rather then pre-determine them, as many other coaches do or have done. I also found Jay to be a blue-collar coach, might be some of his best coaching with the young Men from the so called "other side of the tracks". All the best to coach Minyard and his family.
