Sprague High’s do-everything football star has decided upon where he will play his college ball.
Olympian senior Drew Rodriguez announced via Twitter that he has committed to play at Colorado State of the Mountain West Conference.
The 6-2, 205 pound Rodriguez had a stellar football season last fall, named by the Mountain Valley Conference coaches as a first team all-league receiver, safety and special teams return specialist. He was also a second team punter. Sprague finished third in the MVC with an overall record of 6-4. Rodriguez also played a key defensive role on the Olympians basketball team this past winter.
Rodriguez, rated as a three-star recruit, had also reportedly received scholarship offers from Montana State, Northern Colorado and Portland State. He recently participated in the Northwest Best Collegiate Showcase at Lewis and Clark College in Portland.
Sprague head coach Jay Minyard was excited to hear the news about Rodriguez’s choice.
“I think it’s a great school with a new staff that is headed in a great direction,” said Minyard.
“It’s a good time to join the (Colorado State) program.”
Minyard also had plenty of praise for Drew’s efforts on his own behalf.
“He’s put in a ton of work,” said Minyard. “He and his family wouldn’t make a decision like this unless they had done their homework, trusted the staff and enjoyed the school and the facilities when they visited.”
Sprague opens the 2022 prep football season at Liberty of Hillsboro on September second.
