South Salem begins World Series quest
Saxons 12U team opens pool play at the Ripken Tournament early Friday morning
The South Salem 12U baseball team has its first game early Friday at the Cal Ripken World Series in Branson, Missouri. The Saxons face West Fargo, North Dakota in their first of four games in pool play. The contest begins at 7:00 am Pacific Time. Other games for the team are scheduled for Sunday morning at 7 am, and on Monday and Tuesday at 12 noon Pacific. Depending on how they finish in pool play will determine seeding in bracket play that begins on Wednesday. A total of 28 teams are involved in the event, including West Linn, Oregon—which made the tournament with an automatic berth after winning the 11 year old state and regional tournaments last year.
Side note: South’s Kellen Bowman (#11, second from left) was one of eight players to take part in the tournament’s home run derby Thursday night. He advanced to the second round before being eliminated.
