A celebration of life for longtime South Salem baseball coach Mike Doran will take place Saturday, July 23, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Salem. The service at 1770 Baxter Road SE will begin with family visitation at 10:00 am—with full services for the general public starting at 11:00 am.
The 83 year old Doran passed away April 28th due to complications from lung cancer. In addition to serving as head baseball coach at South Salem, Doran was also a longtime assistant for the Withnell Dodgers American Legion team, and was a batting coach at Willamette University in Salem. Mike was also an assistant under Bill Baumgartner at Sprague High School when the Olympians won the OSAA 4A baseball title in 1995. A more complete overview of Mike’s life can be found in a story that was published this spring.
An informal gathering of family, along with Mike’s former players and coaching colleagues is planned for Friday, July 22, at 4:00 pm at the b2 Taphouse and Brewery at 1170 Boone Road SE.
