South Salem scored four runs in each of the first two innings, then cruised in for an easy 10-0 win over Sydney, Australia after just four innings in the Iron Bracket of the Cal Ripken World Series in Branson, Missouri.
The Saxons pounded out 12 hits, while yielding just three hits defensively. Australia also committed three errors in the game.
Sam Mosar and Ben Otjen led the South Salem offensive attack. Mosar was 2-2 at the plate with two RBIs, and Otjen was 2-3 with a pair of RBIs. Cody Scharer topped all hitters for South, going 3-3 and recording two runs batted in. Wyatt Timmerman picked up the win on the mound for South.
The Saxons move onto round two of consolation bracket play, facing the Middle Atlantic Regional Champions from Springfield, Pennsylvania. The teams play at 9:30 am PT on Thursday.
Only 2 likes?? What’s going on, South Salem? These are the “dog days” of summer, outside of MLB, very few other significant athletic events happening. The Cal Ripken/Branson MO Series should be top priority! Hey, last Sunday, I happened to have some time to watch the tube, and what was on? Championships of cornhole and spikeball, ultimate disc football (I think), disc golf and a pickle ball tournament. Who would have considered those as watchable TV 20, even 10 years ago… Go Saxons, go Ducks, go SeaHawks.
