One of my daughters got married this past weekend. The small event still attracted plenty of people, and included relatives traveling to Oregon to be in attendance. As a result, all other aspects of my life were put on hold late last week. The routine will be coming back slowly over the next few days, and that includes this “job” of writing sports. No apologies being extended, just providing an explanation.
Last week, during the heat that started the two weeks of Oregon prep football fall camp, I did not go anywhere on Monday, thanks to a medical visit. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday—the rounds were made to all six Salem-Keizer high schools, and coach video interviews were shot, while action video was also recorded to mix with the coach comments. That video for the moment sits idle on a memory card, waiting to be processed. The processing will happen over the next several days—a few hours at a time.
The final product will be presented online early next week. Short stories about all six Salem-Keizer squads will be accompanied by photos of the coaches and links to the videos—which will be around 2:30 to 3:00 in length. These bite sized overviews will not list every player or cover every subject—but should provide a good idea of what to see on the field this fall. Thanks in advance for your patience
I did want to provide a little bit of evidence that work was conducted last week. Presented to you below for no particular reason are a series of photos that came from just two of the six sites visited—McKay and West Salem High Schools. The photos were an after thought as a way to provide a little taste of what is going on on the local football fields.
I do look forward to getting the complete stories out on the site—and I want to inform readers that the Substack paywall will be coming into play for these football previews. Thanks for your understanding.
Let’s get this 2023 sports party started!
