Local track teams prepping for Districts, State
Central Valley Conference Districts are May 19-20, State May 26-27 at U of O
Aside from a small track meet this weekend in Gervais for McNary, the rest of the Central Valley Conference track squads are conditioning and working on technique in preparation for the CVC Districts on Friday, May 19th and Saturday, May 20th at McNary High School. The state meet is slated for the following week (May 26-27) at Hayward Field in Eugene.
The CVC has several high caliber state competitors with hopes of medals or outright state championships in various events.
North Salem has a pair of top performers. Viking boys sprinter DeMari Thompson—who won the 5A 100 and 200 meters last season, still is a top performer at the 6A level. Thompson ran a 10.59 100 at the Jesuit/Nike meet on April 28th—the best mark among all 6A competitors this season. Thompson also anchored the North Salem 4X100 meter boys relay to a state-best 42.30 time at the same meet.
North’s Jackie Bier is also at the top of the girls’ 100 meter hurdles, with a best mark of 15.2 seconds.
West Salem’s Brady Bliven holds the top CVC times in every race from 400 meters to 3,000 meters. The Vanderbilt-bound runner is expected to bring home some hardware from the state meet. Also looking to bring home some team points is Titan senior Matt Nivala—who has the best local times in both boys’ hurdling events.
