Former Sprague HS star to the NFL
Oregon State TE Teagan Quitoriano was drafted in the fifth round by Houston
Another athlete from the Salem-Keizer area is headed for the pros. Former Sprague High School standout Teagan Quitoriano was selected in the fifth round, pick #170, of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans.
At Oregon State, Quitoriano was a key part of the effective herd of tight ends who helped create large holes for the running backs in Coach Jonathan Smith’s offense. He was originally a basketball star at Sprague, before turning his focus to football his junior year. Teagan still excelled on the basketball floor, but became a three-star football recruit after two years of all-league honors, and all-state accolades his senior season.
Teagan spent the day Saturday watching the draft at his grandparent’s Polk County home. He told several media outlets that he had not yet made any plans to fly to Houston.
The Texans finished last NFL season with a 4-13 record, good for third place in the AFC South.
Quitoriano will join former Beaver standout— all-pro wide receiver Brandin Cooks—on the Houston roster.
Last month, South Salem basketball star Evina Westbrook was drafted by the Seattle Storm of the WNBA.
