These are items that all by themselves may not warrant their own substack story, but are significant enough to be lumped together with other sports briefs.
Salem Football Product Records NFL TD
Former Sprague High School standout Teagan Quitoriano scored his first NFL touchdown in preseason play Friday night for the Houston Texans. The fifth-round draft pick out of Oregon State caught a six-yard TD pass from backup quarterback Kyle Allen in the third quarter of the road game versus the Los Angeles Rams. The score punctuated a ten-play drive where Quitoriano made a number of solid run blocks from his tight end position. The Texans beat the Rams 24-20 to improve their preseason record to 2-0; the Rams fell to 1-1.
Former Salem hoops star in first WNBA playoff series
Ex-South Salem star Evina Westbrook did not get into the game, but had a great seat on the bench as she watched her Washington Mystics lose on the road at Seattle, 86-83 Thursday in the first round of the WNBA playoffs. Westbrook—a UConn graduate—was drafted this past spring by Seattle, was cut shortly afterwards, then played a handful of games in Minnesota before being picked up by the Mystics. Her playing time for Washington has been decidedly brief in her rookie season. She last appeared in a game on August 14th.
