COACH QUOTES
Football coaches don’t just blow whistles and yell a lot. They also have insights into their teams for the season to come. Sometimes, the insights are wise, sometimes ought right funny. Here are some samples from our Salem-Keizer coaches:
Tune up for the regular season: Jamborees
A long-standing football tradition is the preseason jamboree—where three or four teams from across the state come together at one site and have a low key scrimmage to face some actual competition and work out the kinks in their own team play. HERE IS THE JAMBOREE SCHEDULE for this week—most are slated for Friday:
On Thursday, Sprague will be participating in a jamboree at Wilsonville High School. Mountainside and Glencoe High Schools will also be participating.
West Salem is at the Sheldon jamboree, featuring not only those two schools, but 6A champion Central Catholic, and 5A title holder Silverton.
McNary is at Tigard for their jamboree, which will also feature Sherwood—in a three team event.
North Salem visits McMinnville for their jamboree, with also includes the likes of Westview and Liberty.
South Salem travels to Oregon City for the Pioneers’ jamboree event, which also includes teams from Camas (Washington) and Sandy.
McKay is hosting its own jamboree—with Cascade, Woodburn, and Scappoose participating.
Next week: A brief breakdown of the season-opening football contests.
