Addendum to Bits & Pieces—Teagan gets in and scores for Texans
He hadn’t played at all during the NFL regular season for Houston—until tonight
Sometimes I think the writing powers-that-be like to mess with me. Case in point involves former Sprague High School standout Teagan Quitoriano.
I had written in my just published Bits & Pieces article that Teagan had posed with his cadre of Houston Texan tight ends in recognition of National Tight Ends Day this past weekend. However, the ex-Oregon State tight end—who was drafted by the Texans in the fifth round this past spring had yet to play a regular season snap. His Mom, Bobbi had flown to Houston over the weekend to see him.
Well, guess who got activated today by Houston? Yup. Teagan was put on the active list. And the team decided they might as well use him for tonight’s Thursday night game —and they were glad they did.
Houston was at the two-yard line of the Philadelphia Eagles after driving eight plays and 73 yards to that point. Texans QB Davis Mills threw a two-yard lob into the end zone that Teagan snagged out of the atmosphere above the defenders surrounding him—scoring his first NFL touchdown in the process.
It was the first time that Houston (1-5-1 prior to tonight’s game, now 1-6-1) had scored on their opening drive. It gave the Texans the early lead against the unbeaten Eagles with 9:37 left in the first quarter. The two teams were tied at 14 at halftime, but the Eagles outscored Houston 15-3 in the second half to win the game, 29-17.
Quitoriano began the season on the Reserve/Injured list with a knee injury, but had been practicing with the team since October 17th. Teagan’s touchdown puts him just five TDs away from his career total as a mostly-blocking tight end at Oregon State, where he played for four seasons.
Good for you, Teagan. By the way, Sprague coach Jay Minyard was watching the game to observe the score live. The coach agreed that he virtually spiked the ball along with his former player.
